Fulham have been dealt a big blow on their return to the Premier League with the news that right-back Ryan Fredericks is poised to join West Ham United on a free transfer.

The former Tottenham man has enjoyed an outstanding campaign with the Cottagers, impressing with his speed and ability in the final third.

And, with his contract up in the summer, Fulham were resigned to losing him if they failed to go up.

Yet, according to TalkSPORT reporter Ian Abrahams, they are set to lose the 25-year old anyway, with West Ham set to snap him up when his contract expires in the coming weeks.

Indeed, the journalist appears to have confirmed that a deal is done for the full-back.

His departure will be a tough one for Slavisa Jokanovic to take and the fans won't be too pleased that it comes just days after he hinted he would stay with the side after they won promotion to the Premier League through the play-offs.

Fredericks played a vital role in the final at Wembley but was fortunate to stay on the pitch after stamping on Jack Grealish in the first-half.

Although, one positive from the broadcaster's tweet was that he says it's unlikely Tom Cairney will follow Fredericks to the London Stadium as he had also been linked with a move to the Hammers.

The Verdict

What a signing this is from West Ham. Fredericks is easily capable of stepping up into the top-flight and is a great modern day full-back.

To get him on a free is a great bit of business and Fulham will be gutted to lose a key man like that.

They do have Cyrus Christie as cover and he is a similar type of player in that he likes to get forward but Jokanovic may be on the lookout for a new right-back after this news.
