Josh Windass sends passionate Sheffield Wednesday message after significant win

Sheffield Wednesday’s Josh Windass insists the desire of the players can’t be questioned as they battle to stay in the Championship.

An eight game winless run prior to Saturday’s game at Barnsley meant many saw relegation for the Owls as inevitable. However, a win against the in-form Tykes saw Darren Moore’s side cut the gap to 21st placed Birmingham to six points, with Wednesday having a game in hand.

Whilst it’s complicated by Rotherham’s situation, all connected to Wednesday will feel they now have a chance of getting out of trouble.

That’s certainly Windass’ view, as he told the official site the team have the belief that they can retain their Championship status.

There is a confidence and the players are all buying in to it. We have a lot of heart, a lot of talent and we need to show that on a regular basis in these last nine games and make people proud.

We will keep fighting to the end, we believe we can do it.”

Things aren’t about to get any easier for Moore and the players though, as they take on high-flying Watford after the international break.

The verdict

This is exactly the sort of message that the fans will want to hear, and the display at Oakwell was proof that this group believe survival is possible.

To pick up three points against a Barnsley team that were flying demonstrates the character in the ranks at Hillsborough, but it’s now about building on that.

As Windass says, they need to keep fighting, and if they maintain the levels from Saturday then they do have a real chance, with plenty of time for twists and turns left.
