Sheffield Wednesday reunited with Josh Windass over the course of the summer transfer window, with Garry Monk linking back up with the forward after a successful loan spell earlier in 2020.

Windass scored three goals for Wednesday after signing on loan from Wigan back in January. And, after the Latics' relegation into League One, it was easy enough for the Owls to pick up the forward once more in the transfer window just gone.

Monk has recruited the forward with the aim of Windass offering a little bit of balance to the Wednesday attack, as they look to claw their way back into contention to survive in the Championship after a 12-point deduction in the off-season.

Here at FLW, we bring you our new The Hat-Trick feature, with Windass' permanent move to Hillsborough in the spotlight today...

How's it gone so far?

Simply, it's going pretty well for Windass and Sheffield Wednesday.

Monk is utilising a two-man axis in attack, which is suiting the 26-year-old.

In all competitions, Windass has two goals and an assist to his name in seven appearances. He got off the mark in the Championship with a goal and an assist against Cardiff City on the opening day in a 2-0 win. That was then backed up with a goal against Rochdale in the League Cup.

Windass has started all five of Wednesday's Championship fixtures in attack, helping Monk's side to eight points from a possible 15.

What issues does he face?

The biggest issue for Windass comes on the back of the transfer window.

Monk put a heavy focus on strengthening his attacking options, which, of course, included bringing in the 26-year-old from Wigan.

Callum Paterson arrived from Cardiff City, Elias Kachunga was signed, whilst Jack Marriott has headed North to Yorkshire from Derby County. There's also Jordan Rhodes on the books, giving Monk a healthy number of options.

Marriott is relatively fresh through the door and he only made his debut for the club in Saturday's win at Birmingham. He replaced Windass, interestingly.

Paterson feels like he will be a mainstay in the attack, which maybe leaves Windass fighting for a spot in the side with Marriott.

Right now, Windass is in control and, if his performance levels remain high, he will be fine. However, if things dip and Marriott scores the goals we know he can, there might be an issue for the 26-year-old.

What's next?

More of the same from Windass and Wednesday.

At the moment, all the forward can do is keep convincing Monk he's the man to lead the line alongside Paterson.

Given Paterson isn't the reliable goalscoring type, there might be a little bit of pressure on Windass to score a few goals to really establish himself in the side, but at the moment his contribution is stretching beyond goals.

The ultimate aim for Wednesday this season is to claw back that 12-point deduction and then pull out of the relegation zone.

Inside five fixtures, they've moved onto -4 points. Windass has contributed greatly to that and Monk will be encouraging him to keep doing what he's doing.
