Josh Murphy continued his scoring form as Cardiff drew with Wigan Athletic yesterday.

Cardiff went into the game in South Wales yesterday full of confidence after their 3-0 win at Huddersfield in the week, but found themselves a goal behind after five-minutes yesterday.

Kieffer Moore, who was a rumoured target of Neil Harris' last month, finished from close-range with a deft back-heel, but it was Murphy who provided the equaliser minutes later.

Will Vaulks launched a long throw-in into the penalty box which fell to Murphy at back-post, who finished neatly on the half-volley for his fourth goal in as many games.

After the match, Murphy posted this message on Instagram:

Cardiff found themselves behind at the break through a Moore spot-kick but started the second-half brightly, and were rewarded with another equaliser soon after.

Marlon Pack's effort was deflected in off Kal Naismith, and the pair went on to share the points with a 2-2 draw.

The draw drops Cardiff a place down in the table to 9th, with three points separating them from Preston North End in 6th. It was a disappointing day on the whole for Cardiff who would've wanted a lot more against a Wigan side still in the bottom-three.

But as they did against Leeds earlier in the month, Wigan proved plucky, and might've felt unlucky themselves not have left with a win.

For Murphy, his important to the team has doubled this month. He's become a really prolific player for the Bluebirds and has found a finishing touch as good as anyone's in the league, seemingly out of nowhere.

If he can keep his form up then Cardiff have every chance of snatching a top-six spot.

The verdict

Murphy's never been a prolific player but this month he's been on fire. Everything he touches right now is turning into goals, and long may it continue in Cardiff pursuit of a play-off spot.

He's found a new lease of life in 2020, and has fast become one of the first names on the team-sheet - Harris will be relying on him in the coming weeks to keep Cardiff in the mix for top-six.
