Birmingham City midfielder Josh McEachran has admitted that he would be 'devastated' if Blues were in the top two and the season didn't continue.

The Coronavirus crisis has meant that football has been cancelled in England for the past few weeks and it remains to be seen when, or if, the campaign will resume.

That has prompted some talk that the current season could be null and void, although that does seem unlikely.

And, speaking to Blues Talk, McEachran revealed that players want the season finished whenever possible and suggested it wouldn't be fair on Leeds and West Brom, the top two, if the campaign was ended now.

"It’s not up to me but the lads want to keep going as much as possible. Now the Euros has been postponed to next year, if we were sitting where Leeds and West Brom are sitting and it was cancelled you would be absolutely devastated wouldn’t you?

"Even the teams in the play-off positions, like Brentford haven’t been that high for years and years and they would be gutted if they did cancel the league."

QUIZ: Can you name the player who scored the first Birmingham City goal in each of the last 16 seasons?

The verdict

Most would agree with McEachran that finishing the season, whenever that may be, is the way to go as it would prevent so much anger from certain clubs.

As he says, the likes of Leeds and Albion would be gutted if the campaign ended and you would imagine that those in charge of the two sides would seek legal action.

Ultimately though, we don't know how this will play out as it's a terrible situation and it's a case of waiting and seeing what happens in the coming months, with football understandably not a priority right now.
