Huddersfield Town fans have a new forward to worship in the form of Josh Koroma.

Karlan Grant's departure in the summer, and Huddersfield's subsequent failure to properly replace him, has opened a door for Koroma under Carlos Corberan.

It's a chance that the former Leyton Orient forward is taking too, which makes the 21-year-old the latest feature of FLW's The Hat-Trick...

How's it gone so far?

Town swooped to sign Koroma from Orient in the summer of 2019, offering the youngster a chance to step into the Championship after a successful spell in the National League.

The first-half of 2019/20 was frustrating for Koroma and he struggled to find his feet, with Danny Cowley eventually giving him the green-light to join Rotherham United on loan. His spell with the Millers saw him make only five substitute appearances in League One.

Corberan's appointment at the John Smith's Stadium in the summer of 2020 coincided with speculation surrounding Grant's future. With Huddersfield not replacing last year's 19-goal forward, Koroma got his chance.

So far this season he's made 10 appearances in the Championship, scoring three goals.

It's two in two at the moment as well, with Koroma bagging against Millwall last Saturday to set Huddersfield up for a 3-0 win, before opening the scoring against Bristol City in midweek. Unfortunately, Town didn't hold on and lost 2-1 to the Robins.

What issues does he face?

In many ways, Koroma is pulling his weight. He's scoring goals and causing problems, but Huddersfield as a team are guilty of lapses in concentration like Tuesday night.

Perhaps the main issue for Koroma really convincing EFL fans he's the real deal at this level.

Last season wasn't up to standard for Huddersfield or Rotherham, but young forwards should be afford time.

Corberan is filling him with confidence and there's a swagger about Koroma that tells you he does really believe in himself. Now, it's about showing the Championship he is the real deal. It's been a good start, but there's more work to do.

What's next?

We've touched on it with the last point, but it's time for Koroma to become really consistent.

Whether it is right or wrong, he's the man in the Huddersfield side that's replacing Grant. He's playing from the left or even through the middle and is tasked with scoring the bulk of Town's goals.

Grant scored 19 times last season in the Championship and there's no real expectation that Koroma will match those numbers, but Corberan will be hoping that he's repaid with double figures.

Three goals in 10 appearances is a decent start, but the hurdle now facing Koroma is to really kick on and make Huddersfield fans forget the recently-departed Grant.
