Burnley moved seven points clear at the top of the Championship with a 3-0 win at Norwich City in the early kick-off.

Sheffield United played out a goalless draw at Rotherham United simultaneously, while the Clarets ran riot at Carrow Road.

Burnley have now won nine matches in a row in the second tier under Vincent Kompany, and without counting their chickens, the club can begin making plans for the summer transfer window with Premier League TV money set to come into the club.

The Canaries have made a promising start to life under David Wagner, but this afternoon was something of a reality check against a side seemingly destined to lift the league title.

Josh Brownhill has been a key player for the Clarets all season in a variety of midfield roles and he spoke to Sky Sports in reflecting on the victory after the game.

He said: "We put in a really good shift today and we deserved the win after all.

"It's a good atmosphere in the dressing room.

"We've done a lot of hours on the training ground and meetings and everything, you can see it's working.

"One game I can play as a striker, the next I can play as a six, as I did for a lot of today."

So many players in the Burnley squad have hit new heights this season, and though Brownhill would have expected to be a key performer back in the second tier, the 27-year-old is a player who seems to have benefitted enormously from the change in style of play.

The Verdict

As things stand, Burnley look like they could follow in Fulham's footsteps next season, and keep themselves away from any sort of relegation battle for the entire campaign.

A lot of the Cottagers' dominance last season came from Aleksandar Mitrovic's incredible consistency in front of goal, Burnley are far less reliant on one individual for goals, and that could see them thrive even more in the Premier League.

The Clarets are becoming a more attractive club due to having Kompany in the dugout, but looking to a future after the Belgian potentially moves on, he is providing a blueprint to success for the other decision makers to carry on with for seasons to come.
