Charlton Athletic manager Jose Riga has resigned from his position as manager of the club, the club’s official website has confirmed following their final day defeat to Burnley today.
The Addicks fell to a poor 3-0 defeat to Sean Dyche’s men this afternoon, a result which saw the Clarets win the Sky Bet Championship, after which Riga confirmed his resignation from his post as manager.
The Belgian only joined the club after Karal Fraeye was sacked in January, and won a quarter of his games during his return at the Valley. He couldn’t stop them from falling to relegation though, with the Addicks only winning nine games this season.
With huge unrest at the club amongst the fans, who have enormous concern over the ownership of the club, the plot thickens as they now need to find another manager.
Protests continued after the game today in which fans invaded the pitch and tore up the fans sofa. A banner was also put out above the Directors Box with an arrow pointing to Roland Duchâtelet labelling him ‘Liar’.
The club statement read: ‘José Riga has left his role as Charlton Athletic Head Coach following the final-day clash with Burnley at The Valley on Saturday.
‘The club would like to thank Jose for all his hard work over the last few months and wish him the very best for the future.’
Whoever replaces Riga at the helm at the Valley will have an almighty job on his hands in trying to get Charlton promoted back to the Championship.
