Jose Mourinho's arrival to Manchester United hasn't quite gone to plan as of yet.

Mourinho's first three months of his United reign have presented many issues ahead of the rest of the season.

It is certainly no secret that the Portuguese manager spent around £90million on Paul Pogba in the summer before the season started. That in mind, the United hierarchy may not be so willing to depart with money in January.

There is no doubting the talent within the United squad but have the players on the pitch shown their determination and hunger to play for the badge on their chests? It would appear not at this moment in time.

Perhaps Mourinho is still figuring out his best starting line-up. And, unlike many people within football, I am more than willing to give him the time to get things how he wants them.

Ahead of the January transfer window, Mourinho may look to the Championship to sign players. Where better? The league is full of some of the countries' best young talents and have the potential to develop into top players over the next few years.

That said, the Red Devils could do with an injection of hunger and energy into their side in the January transfer window and the Championship is a potential place to look. After all, Mourinho signed just four players over the summer.

FLW writer, Reece Chambers, identifies FOUR championship players Mourinho could look to sign in January...

Jacob Murphy

At the age of 21, Jacob Murphy is far from the standard that would see him into the United starting XI. However, the young Englishman possesses many qualities that could see him reach that level one day.

The winger can play on either the right or left hand-side in an attacking role to allow him to express his flair and creativity.

With the likes of Marcus Rashford and Jesse Lingard getting sustained periods of time on the pitch from Jose Mourinho, there seems to be a willingness to allow youth the chance to develop under his management.

Adam Reach

Perhaps a less likely player to reach the heights of Old Trafford is Adam Reach. The left midfielder has appeared just nine times this season for Sheffield Wednesday.

Despite this, he has some qualities that could see him become a Premier League target. For instance, his ability to play in a variety of positions, including left back, left midfield and as a secondary striker.

Mourinho could also get detailed information on Reach as his close friend, Aitor Karanka, used to manage the 23-year-old at Middlesbrough and he always rated him highly.

Lewis Dunk

The player with the most Premier League attraction on this list is undoubtedly Lewis Dunk. He has received interest from the likes of West Brom over the last few months, for example.

So far this season, Dunk has continued his form from the last campaign with 9 clean sheets so far in a resilient Brighton defence.

And, with Manchester United's defence proving quite the opposite of that last weekend at Stamford Bridge, Mourinho may look towards Dunk as a potential solution to his sides frailties.

Adam Armstrong

19-year-old Adam Armstrong is one of the youngest players in the Championship but is by no means out of place.

The forward has kicked on from an impressive loan spell at League One side Coventry City last season, scoring three times so far for current side, Barnsley.

Due to his tender age, Armstrong is unlikely to be playing in the Premier League by the start of next season but there is certainly no doubting the player's ability.

Because of his talent, Mourinho may well look to monitor the performances of Armstrong with the view of looking closer at the forward in years to come.
