Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho is prepared for a tough FA Cup tie against Reading, after claiming the Championship isn't that far off the Premier League in terms of quality.

The Royals were handed a trip to Old Trafford for the third time in six years as the draw was made last night.

Whilst it's a chance for plenty of supporters to head to the iconic ground, the reality is that survival in the Championship may be the priority for Reading.

Paul Clement's side are outside the relegation zone on goal difference ahead of the busy festive period and have not won in four games.

Yet, Mourinho told United's official site that the Royals are 'very, very, very similar' to Premier League sides:

"I think the Championship teams are much better than before.

"They are very, very, very similar teams, not just in the potential but the way they play, to many Premier League teams. So, to play against Reading, is no different, to me, to playing against the majority of Premier League teams."

The tie is due to be played on the weekend of the January 5, although it could be moved for TV coverage.

The Verdict

It's common for managers to praise the opposition before they meet and nobody really expected Mourinho to say he thinks his side will win easily.

However, this does feel over the top and it's a tie that United should progress through rather comfortably.

As for Reading, it should take their mind of the league when it comes around and the players will enjoy the role as massive underdogs.
