Barnsley manager Jose Morais has insisted he's the right man for the job, despite guiding the Tykes to the brink of League One football.

He's told BBC Radio Sheffield reporter Jonathan Buchan that he's the right man for the job, according to the reporter's latest tweet.

This comes just days after he made six changes for a crucial match at Nottingham Forest, a game his side lost 3-0.

Morais took over from Paul Heckingbottom when the latter went to Leeds United, but has struggled to make an impact. He's won just two of his matches in charge and, in losing their vital game in hand this week, they're now favourites for the drop.

Morais has excellent pedigree, having been assistant to Jose Mourinho at Inter, Real Madrid and Chelsea, but Barnsley have increasingly looked like a side without direction and are facing a return to the level they escaped just two seasons ago.

It took a play-off win against Millwall to see them promoted, but they've struggled to settle in the second tier.

The Verdict

Morais thinks he's the right man for the job, but I could find you several thousand people who feel he is not. I'd be amongst that number, he simply hasn't grasped the complexities of managing a Championship side, his multiple changes the other night only highlighted a general lack of understanding at this level.

Just because you've been assistant at Real Madrid, where even the reserves are world class, doesn't mean you can use the blueprint anywhere. Barnsley need something else, someone more in tune with the club and the level.
