As per a report from The Telegraph, Reading are set to sack manager Jose Gomes as early as Wednesday as they look to get themselves out of yet another relegation scrap.

The trigger has well and truly been pulled on the managerial merry-go-round in the EFL now. Neil Harris walked away from Millwall whilst the likes of Daniel Stendel and Jack Ross have seen themselves lose their jobs at Barnsley and Sunderland respectively.

It's set to be a hectic week or so away from the international break with clubs looking for new managers, then, and Gomes appears set to be the latest to be relieved of his duties.

The Portuguese manager arrived towards the end of last and had the Royals in some decent form, steering them clear of the drop.

However, with them embarking on another poor run of form in recent weeks, it looks as though it's another change of personnel in the dugout for the Berkshire side.

The Verdict

Gomes might feel as though he is owed a little bit more time but things have not gone to plan in recent weeks and Reading are clearly worried that failure to act now could leave them staring down the barrel of a drop into League One.
