Reading manager José Gomes has expressed the need for Danny Loader to 'breathe and recover' after his move to Wolverhampton Wanderers fell through last week.

It looked as if the U19 England international was set for a move to the Premier League last week, only for the transfer to fall through - after Loader had taken his medical.

He was then left out Reading's match day squad for their 2-1 defeat at Hull City on Saturday.

Speaking to GetReading, Gomes said: "I didn't put him on the list because of what happened in the last few days and his expectations. I think I did the best for Reading.

"I just wanted to let the kid breathe and recover. Then we'll see. Maybe in his head he had a good opportunity for his career and when this happens the player feel frustrated.

"We need to give him time to recover."

Loader released a statement on his Instagram story on Tuesday morning where he explained that he never handed in a transfer request and will always be respectful to Reading.

He said: "I'm very ambitious, my dream is to play on the biggest stage.

"To be clear, I never handed in a transfer request and I trained on Thursday and Friday.

"I'm still a Reading player and that means I will give 100%, as I have always done."

The Verdict

Loader clearly had his heart set on a move to Wolves and for whatever reason it didn't materialise. You can't help but feel bad for the player.

However, if he is to make a big deal out of it in the future, Reading must make sure they stand their ground and continue to keep him out of the match day squad.

The Royals have seemingly had a team of bad attitudes over the last few years, and they can't let a player with just one Championship goal affect morale.

It's now a big few months for Loader and his future. If he is to leave in the summer, it will be on a free (with a youth tribunal fee) and the Royals won't receive anywhere near the sort of fee they would have got from Wolves.

If he doesn't sign a new contract than Reading must do everything they can to sell the forward in January. At this current moment, this looks the most likely option.
