Reading manager Jose Gomes will be hoping his side can put their poor league form to one side when they travel to Wolves tonight in the third round of the Carabao Cup.

The Royals are on a run of three straight defeats, that leaves them down in 20th in the Championship, just two points clear of the relegation places.

So should Gomes consider major changes for the Wolves clash tonight?

We discuss........

Chris Gallagher

"Not at all, this is a very winnable tie.

"Wolves left out several U23 players for an EFL Trophy game last night which suggests they are making a lot of changes, so Reading should go pretty strong and it's a tie they can come through.

"Of course, there's no getting away from the fact the league is the priority and Saturday's game at Swansea has to be in the thinking of Gomes.

"However, after three straight defeats, confidence will be low among the group. Picking up a win away against a Premier League side could be the catalyst to go on a run in the Championship. So, whilst I expect a few changes, Gomes shouldn't make wholesale changes."

Josh Cole

“Having suffered three defeats on the bounce in the Championship, it would be somewhat of a surprise if Gomes doesn’t end up making major changes to his side for tonight’s Carabao Cup clash with Wolves.

“Although Reading have illustrated some occasional signs of promise this season, a lack of consistency has ultimately held them back.

“Whilst utilising both Lucas Joao and George Puscas could help the Royals claim a positive result against Wolves, Gomes should also consider given some of his younger players a run-out at Molineux.

“With the Wanderers currently struggling for form in the Premier League, Reading could spring a surprise if they decide to take the game to Nuno Espirito Santo’s side.

“I don’t see why they shouldn’t make changes against Wolves.

“Let’s face it, it will be incredibly tough for the Royals tonight as they look to come up against a top six Premier League side.

“Their bread and butter is the league and they need to get back on track in the Championship, so Gomes can’t afford to risk any long-term injuries at all.

“Reading also have plenty of youngsters in their squad, so tonight could be a great opportunity to see what they’re all about and how they cope.”
