Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay wants his team to show character tonight as they look to bounce back from their 4-0 hammering at Bristol City last time out.

The Owls were comprehensively outplayed at Ashton Gate and thoroughly deserved their heavy defeat, with the first-half performance particularly bad.

Therefore, Luhukay believes his side will need to show mental strength to get a much-needed win against Ipswich at Hillsborough tonight.

After Saturday, it is very important that the team is mentally strong and believes in each other and themselves,” he told the Sheffield Star.

We can only help ourselves, not the opponents. With the support in our fans, we can have belief in each other and make a good game and result.”

As well as that, the former Gladbach manager has demanded his side show more consistency after a mixed start since he took over.

We have been working for two months and we have made a very good progression and played very good in some games. But also games, where we have been not good. We must be more consistent.”

The Verdict

After Saturday’s dismal showing fans are justifiably going to expect a big performance from Wednesday tonight so as the manager says, they need to be mentally strong.

Whether this group of players are capable of playing under such pressure remains to be seen but they simply have to.

As for Luhukay, he will need to look at himself as well as the responsibility always lies with the manager and recent results haven’t been good enough.
