Jos Luhukay will be looking for his first league win as Sheffield Wednesday boss tomorrow when the Owls entertain Birmingham and he could be boosted by the return of Marco Matias.

The Portuguese attacker has suffered with injury problems throughout his time at Hillsborough although he has impressed when available to the new boss in recent weeks.

However, he wasn’t involved in the match day squad for the goalless draw at Middlesbrough in the week, but Luhukay told the club's media he is hopeful Matias will be involved tomorrow.

Marco will train today, we hope he can train 100% and then see if there is a position for him tomorrow.”

The 28-year old forward has benefitted from the arrival of Luhukay who initially used him as a substitute in the FA Cup draw at Carlisle.

In the replay, Matias took his chance by scoring in the 2-0 win and followed that up with a man of the match performance in the next round against Reading.

Therefore, with the likes of Fernando Forestieri, Gary Hooper and Steven Fletcher all out injured, the manager could be needing Matias tomorrow.

The Verdict

You have to be cautious about Matias because he really has struggled for games over the years, but recent performances under Luhukay should leave Wednesday fans optimistic.

He gives the Owls a different dimension going forward as he is quick, direct and a real handful for defenders.

So, Luhukay will be hoping Matias can get through the training session today in order to have a chance for the Birmingham game.
