Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has given an update on the future of goalkeeper Keiren Westwood.

The Owls boss has revealed there is no update on the future of the Republic of Ireland international.

Luhukay was speaking to the press ahead of his side’s Carabao Cup clash with Sunderland and revealed there has been no bids for the 33-year-old who is seeking a move away from Hillsborough.

Westwood’s future with the Championship side is in doubt having not made any appearances for the Owls this season - not even making the bench.

In a friendly against Mansfield Town, Westwood was not in the line-up for this match, with Luhukay saying after the game that he picked up an injury during the week.

But then Westwood said on Twitter that he was not injured. All that had happened was that he missed a training session the previous Thursday and he had not been injured all summer.

That has been attributed to the source of the current spat between the two.

The Verdict

This is a transfer saga that is benefitting no one.

Westwood was the Owls player of the year during his first season at Hillsborough, and this dispute is typifying the awful circumstances that Sheffield Wednesday now find themselves in.

Under their transfer embargo, they are unable to sign players so you’d have imagined that Luhukay would have been wanting to have his most senior players available, the goalkeeper being one of them,

However, the dispute looks to have signalled the end of Westwood’s career with the Championship side.

The fact that no bids have come in for the stopper is surprising as he is regarded as one of the best in the division and would be a solid signing for the majority of the current second-tier sides.Â
