Under-fire manager Jos Luhukay has seemingly received the backing of his chairman this week, who suggests he won't be sacking the Dutchman rashly.

The Owls have fallen from sixth to 18th after an awful run of results and Luhukay is under pressure. Chants of 'you're getting sacked in the morning' rang out at the weekend as his side lost at Swansea, but the club's chairman isn't going to be making a rash decision.

He's backed his manager's previous credentials and said that making a change in the dugout would not guarantee any further success at Hillsborough.

“We chose Jos in January because he has a good CV,” Chansiri told the Sheffield Star. “Two months ago, the fans and media were saying Jos was very good."

“Now we have gone down in the table, the fans are saying Jos is very bad and are asking why we haven’t changed [manager]. It is easy to change a manager but it does not guarantee that you are going to be successful"

He backed up his claims by telling of the gamble involved and why, for now, he's sticking with Luhukay,

“When other clubs have made a change, some have worked and some haven’t. Nobody knows for sure whether they will be good or bad appointments. It is a gamble. You are just going off potential.”

Wednesday have just one win in their last ten matches, an unconvincing 1-0 victory against Bolton Wanderers. They face trips to Middlesbrough and West Brom over the festive period, both matches in which they're expected to get very little.

The Verdict

It's refreshing to hear the chairman back the manager, but sadly both are under fire so his words are hollow. If the chairman was a popular man, it might buy Luhukay some time, but the distrust extends to him, making it empty.

I fear for Luhukay, no matter what the owner says. They're at home to Preston this weekend and a failure to get points would surely make it a blank Christmas. that could see them in the bottom three at the turn of the year.
