Sheffield Wednesday have been dealt another injury blow, with Jos Luhukay confirming that Gary Hooper has a slight problem with his groin.

Hooper hasn’t featured for the Owls since last December, with Luhukay never having the 30-year-old available for selection.

Last year, Hooper scored 11 goals prior to his injury, but has missed over eight months of action.

The Owls were hoping to welcome the forward back into action over the next few weeks, with Hooper featuring for the club’s under-23s.

However, Luhukay has confirmed to Sheffield Wednesday’s official Twitter account that Hooper hasn’t been able to train over the last few days. However, there is hope that Hooper will be fit to return to training next week:

Luhukay’s side take on Aston Villa this Saturday in the Championship, with the Owls looking to get back to winning ways after a midweek defeat to Nottingham Forest.

Following the clash with Aston Villa, Wednesday return to Hillsborough to host Leeds United.

It remains to be seen if Hooper is back in training and at all available for what will be a fierce Yorkshire derby.

The Verdict

This is worrying for Sheffield Wednesday, as these types of updates have often progressed to be long-term injuries in the past.

Hooper is a key player for the Owls and his presence is sorely missed.

Everyone associated with Sheffield Wednesday will be hoping this isn’t serious.
