Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks after a number of disappointing performances.

The Owls manager will know that a defeat to their fiercest rivals Sheffield United could spell the end of his time in charge of the Championship club.

Luhukay's side won't be favourites heading into the game tomorrow, with Sheffield United just a single point behind Leeds, who currently occupy top spot in the league table.

His side's chances were dealt a further blow with a number of absentees unavailable for their game against the Blades.

Speaking in a press conference with the Sheffield Star ahead of their crunch clash with their local rivals, Luhukay revealed who the absentees were for the game on Friday.

"Sam Winnall is out for four to six weeks. David Jones and Keiren Westwood are not training."

Winnall has only just made his comeback for the Owls when featuring for their U23s, so this setback will come as a huge disappointment to the striker.

Whilst Jones and Westwood are reported to be injured, neither have been under serious consideration for a lot of the season.

The Verdict

The news of Winnall's absence in particular will come as a huge blow to Luhukay and the Sheffield Wednesday supporters.

The former Barnsley man was nearing a return from a lengthy injury lay-off, but with him ruled out until the Christmas period, it will come as a potentially season-defining blow to the Owls.

The absence of Jones and Westwood is still an odd situation that supporters need clarity over.
