Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has called on the fans to get behind Cameron Dawson, as the keeper looks for his first clean sheet of the season.

The 23-year-old has been number one for the Owls in this campaign, ahead of Joe Wildsmith and Keiren Westwood, with the latter yet to play since Luhukay was appointed.

However, Dawson has come in for criticism as the Yorkshire side have struggled recently, with fans chanting for Westwood in the 4-0 defeat to Norwich last time out.

Yet, Luhukay was quoted by the Sheffield Star as saying that his number one deserves support from those in the stands.

"Give this person (Dawson) a lot of confidence, trust and also give him the respect that he needs and deserves. I stay 100 per cent behind him and he deserves that. He works unbelievably hard in training. He was not the worst player in the games that we now lose."

Dawson is sure to continue in goal for Wednesday as they make the short trip to Bramall Lane in the Steel City derby tomorrow night.

The Owls face their high-flying rivals having lost four games in a row and they sit just four points above the relegation zone.

The Verdict

Luhukay has made it clear that Dawson is his number one and this passionate defence of the keeper proves he will be in goal tomorrow.

Whilst some fans may not agree with that decision, it's good to see a manager come out and back his player like this.

It should give Dawson confidence heading into the game, which would be the ideal time to get that elusive clean sheet.
