Sheffield Wednesday boss Jos Luhukay has revealed that Owls captain Tom Lees is in contention for a place in the starting XI ahead of their game against Birmingham this weekend.

The skipper was dropped to the bench for their game against QPR after a poor performance against Middlesbrough in front of the Sky Sports cameras on Friday evening.

But Lees is set for a return to the side for this weekend's game, where they will be looking to fire themselves back up into play-off contention.

Luhukay admitted that the Owls captain is pushing for a start when they face Birmingham City at the weekend, in what will prove to be a tough game to bounce back from their defeat to QPR in midweek.

'He’s a fantastic captain and has a great character. He is pushing for a start tomorrow', Luhukay revealed in his press conference ahead of Saturday's game.

Lees has made 170 appearances for the Owls in what will be his fifth season with the club, after making the move in 2014 from fellow Championship club, Leeds United.

The Verdict:

Lees will hold his hands up and admit that he had a poor game against Middlesbrough last Friday but he has obviously put the work in on the training field if he set to be recalled to the starting XI for this weekend's game.

He will come up against one of the in-form strikerforces in the league in Che Adams and Lucas Jutkiewicz who have netted 11 times between them.

Jos Luhukay will be hoping for a better defensive display from his side, if they are to get anything from this tough trip to face Garry Monk's in-form Birmingham side.
