Sheffield Wednesday announced that Joey Pelupessy as the first signing of the Jos Luhukay era but will still be chasing more deals in the January window.

The Dutch midfielder joined from Eredivisie side Heracles and goes straight into the squad for tomorrow’s tea-time clash against Cardiff City.

However, if the new manager gets his way, he could be one of several new players coming to Hillsborough this month.

You can get a player on loan, or buy, also for the future. You have two situations, and we have a lot of injures, so I must have a good eye on my squad,” he told the Sheffield Star.

Now we have 13 (fit) players, but there are 10 players unavailable at this moment.”

Yet, the former Gladbach boss was quick to admit it can be difficult to sign the right players in the winter window.

The problem in January is it’s not an easy transfer month. The good players, normally they must stay with their club. You can pick up players but they have not had the chance to play for their club.”

The Verdict

Owls fans will be delighted to see that Luhukay has quickly bought a new midfielder to the club as it was much-needed.

It’s also a good sign that the club are clearly lining up more deals as the injury crisis that has hit Wednesday means new players are needed.

Now it’s up to Luhukay to find the right additions, as realistically he is building for next season.
