Suspended Leeds United teenager Jordan Stevens has sent an emotional thank you to fans of the Yorkshire club on Instagram in response to their messages of support.

In September, the midfielder was given a six-week ban from all football-related activity and a £1,200 fine by the FA for breaking betting rules after admitting to placing 59 bets last season–five of which involved Leeds.

Leeds were quick to criticise the punishment, with CEO Angus Kinnear revealing the club were "hugely disappointed".

Stevens suspension ended on the 10th of October, meaning he is able once again to be involved with the Yorkshire club.

It appears that the Leeds fan base got behind the teenager and sent him messages of support during what would likely have been a difficult time.

Stevens posted an image on Instagram of him holding a number of letters and cards that appear to contain messages of support and encouragement from Whites supporters.

The 19-year-old added the caption: "Thank You."

Stevens joined Leeds in 2018 from Forest Green Rovers and appeared just once for the first team–coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 loss to Stoke City last season.

The defensive midfielder was a regular fixture in Carlos Corberan's Professional Development League winning U23s last season.

The Verdict

It is perhaps understandable that the FA look to deal with betting offenses with harsh punishments but this one always looked a bit too far.

It is great to see the support and encouragement that Leeds fans appear to have provided to the 19-year-old, who must have found the whole saga very difficult.

I am sure Stevens will be determined to get back up to speed as quickly as possible and it will be interesting to see how soon he returns to the U23s.
