Fulham's newest recruit Jordan Archer says he "couldn't turn down" the opportunity to join the west London club after agreeing to move to Craven Cottage on a free transfer.

The former Millwall stopper joins Fulham on a short-term deal until the end of the season, and the club have an option to extend it by a further twelve months.

Speaking to the club website. Archer said: “It’s a fantastic club, I’ve played against them a few times so I know some of the boys here. This season they’re doing well, so it’s an absolute honour to be part of it."

“I’m buzzing now. I was raring to get it done. I got the call earlier in the week to come in and do the medical," he added.

As well as being familiar with some members of the first-team squad already, Archer also said that he knows Scott Parker and goalkeeping coach Rob Birch well from his days at Tottenham Hotspur.

“I know Scotty Parker – or the Gaffer I should say – as I was a young lad when he was there [Tottenham], so that should help me transition."

Archer most recently featured for Oxford United, with the U's signing the 26-year-old last month as short-term cover for their injured first-choice goalkeeper, Simon Eastwood.

The 26-year-old made a total of eight appearances during his short spell at the Kassam Stadium, keeping three clean sheets.

Archer made his name at Millwall, spending a total of four seasons at The Den from 2015 to 2019, making 166 appearances.

He was part of the Lions side that achieved promotion to the Championship in 2016-17, starting in the play-off final victory against Bradford City at Wembley.

The Verdict

Fulham have strengthened their goalkeeping ranks with this signing, but it is unlikely that Archer will take the No. 1 spot from Marek Rodak, instead being a backup option.

However, this move also leaves the future of Marcus Bettinelli in doubt at the club.
