Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich has revealed what Middlesbrough man Jonny Howson said to him at full-time on Wednesday night, as the pair shook hands.

The Whites travelled to the Riverside on Wednesday night looking for a third straight win and they did just that thanks to Mateusz Klich’s first-half goal in stoppage time, with a well-worked manoeuvre on the edge of the box between him and Pablo Hernandez seeing him break into the box and fire past Aynsley Pears, off the post and in.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men held on for their third successive 1-0 after ground-out results against Bristol City and Reading previously, helping them extend their gap to third place to five points as Fulham and co. stutter.

The game saw former Leeds hero Jonny Howson come up against his boyhood club once again and his newfound role at full-back has been a surprising one, but one of necessity as their injury issues piled up.

Following the full-time whistle, the players shook hands and the match-winner, Klich, had a more than just a handshake with Howson when they crossed paths. Howson appeared to say something in the ear of the Polish international that was hard to make out when shown via the televised cameras.

However, Klich has since revealed what Howson said to him in that encounter:

By ‘get it done’, one can only assume that Howson is hoping that his former club finally clinches promotion back to the Premier League, something that he will have dreamt of doing himself but couldn’t manage.

Can you take on this Leeds left-foot/right-foot challenge?

The verdict

It’s no surprise that Howson is saying this sort of thing to Klich after spending his whole life growing up as a Leeds fan.

Klich and the rest of the side don’t need any more motivation than what they already have, but it’s a sign of how much others want it.

They are in a strong position to get promoted along with West Brom as they sit five clear of Fulham with 11 games left to play.

The pressure is mounting on the side as the run-in intensifies, but the players will surely be confident of maintaining their momentum for the rest of the season.
