Championship football finally returns this week, with Luton Town's season opener against Birmingham City next Saturday.

After a tremendous campaign last season, Nathan Jones' side will be hoping they can kick off the new season with a victory over the Blues.

It has been a busy summer for the Hatters, too, with the likes of Ethan Horvath, Luke Freeman and Carlton Morris some intriguing additions.

Having said that, there is still plenty of time left in the transfer window, and, as such, rumours and reports continue to swirl - transfer related or otherwise.

Here, we've collated the latest Hatters headlines you may have missed.

Jones reacts to West Ham draw

One headline that emerged over the weekend followed Luton's 1-1 draw with West Ham United on Saturday afternoon.

Boss Nathan Jones felt it was a worthwhile match to play for his team.

He told Luton Town club media: "It was a real worthwhile exercise."

“You’re playing against a top Premier League, there was real quality right throughout, it was a real good test in how we played, we moved the ball, they have internationals right throughout the side and I was really happy.

“We didn’t sit in, we went after them, pressed them and showed real quality and desire to go and win a football match."

Firepower added

Another headline that also emerged via Nathan Jones is that he is happy with the striking options added to his side this summer.

The Hatters have brought in the likes of Carlton Morris and Cauley Woodrow this summer and Jones feels his sides' lack of firepower at the end of last term is what cost them a Championship play-off final last season.

"We picked up some injuries and went into real important games, we didn’t quite have the strength and depth to really go and affect Huddersfield in the play-offs." the Hatters boss told Luton Today.

“I thought we were excellent in both games for the majority of both games, but just lacked a little bit of firepower and killer instinct.

"So hopefully now we’ve got a little bit more of that, plus others who will gather a bit more momentum.”

Morris excitement

One of those new boys added, Carlton Morris, has admitted he is excited by the attacking options available at the club, too.

The 16-year-old joined from Barnsley this summer following their relegation to League One, but says he is excited to play among such quality attacking options.

“I think we’re feeling really confident with the quality we’ve got, especially up there on the pitch." Morris told Luton Today.

"It’s something as a footballer you get excited to play in, you see the teamsheet and see some of the names you’re playing with and it’s nice to have that in your own team.”
