Coventry City are in action for the first time in 2022 this weekend, taking on Derby County in the FA Cup third round.
Mark Robins’ side sit 10th in the Championship table as things stand, with half an eye on the play-offs.
Given the Sky Blues had a decent break over Christmas and New Year due to fixture postponements, which doesn’t heighten the need for Robins to make the type of hardcore changes we often see in the FA Cup’s early rounds.
As our graphic below outlines, even with changes, Coventry should be able to field a pretty competitive XI against the Rams:
Ben Wilson could get another chance with the gloves, behind a three-man defence of Michael Rose, Jake Clarke-Salter and Dominic Hyam.
Ian Maatsen, without any demands from Chelsea, should be playing at left wing-back, whilst Fankaty Dabo will provide the width on the opposite side of the pitch.
Gustavo Hamer could return into the midfield, alongside Josh Eccles in the engine room, with Robins shuffling his pack in the cup.
Jodi Jones could also get a chance in a slightly more advanced midfield position, with Callum O’Hare rested.
In terms of the attacking duo, Tyler Walker could get the nod, as could Viktor Gyokeres, with this tie a good opportunity to play Coventry’s strikers into form for the upcoming Championship fixtures.
