Forte has struggled for first-team football at Southampton over the past three seasons.

The 28 year-old is a free agent having been released by Southampton this summer. The forward had been on trial at Boundary Park and now becomes the club’s eighth summer signing.

Forte has agreed a one-year contract with Lee Johnson’s side ahead of the 2014/15 League One season.

The Barbados international spent three-and-a-half¬†years with Southampton but was largely out-of-favour during his time at the St Mary’s Stadium. The forward made 11 appearances, scoring twice for the club. Most of his appearances for the Saints came in the 2010/11 season, the striker has played only once in the league in the past three seasons for Southampton.

The former Scunthorpe forward has been sent out on loan on numerous occasions by the Saints, playing for four clubs for temporary spells during his time with Southampton. His most recent loan spell was towards the end of the 2012/13 season where he made 12 appearances for Sheffield United.

Forte did not make a single appearance in league or cup for any team last season but has suitably impressed Oldham boss Lee Johnson to earn a deal with the League One club.
