Huddersfield Town’s on loan goalkeeper Jonas Lossl is set to return to Goodison Park in the summer and look to challenge Jordan Pickford for the club’s number one spot, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Lossl departed Huddersfield at the end of last season following the Terriers relegation from the Premier League, but he was unable to force his way into the Everton side ahead of England’s current number one in Pickford, which means he is yet to make an appearance for the Toffees.

The 31-year-old made a return to Huddersfield in the January transfer window, as Danny Cowley looked to boost his options in the goalkeeping department following an injury to Liverpool loanee Kamil Grabara – and Lossl made seven Championship appearances in his second spell with the Terriers before the season was suspended.

Huddersfield will wait to see whether the campaign gets back underway and also whether Lossl’s loan deal can be extended until the end of the season, but it is thought that there will be no permanent return in the summer for the 31-year-old who is determined to return to Everton and make a claim for regular game time.

The verdict

This is not the most surprising update with Huddersfield having already been preparing themselves for Lossl’s exit in the summer, but the keeper has proved to be a very valuable addition to the squad since he arrived back at the club in the January window.

The 31-year-old, though, will be hoping that he is able to complete the season with Huddersfield and help Cowley’s side secure their position in the Championship – and of he is able to play a role in that then it will have been a very successful short second spell with the Yorkshire club.

Huddersfield will be needing to focus their attentions on identifying a new permanent number one goalkeeper for next season, with both Lossl and Grabara seeing their loan deals end at the end of the campaign, and it will be vital that the club bring in the right option, but they should be encouraged by some of the good business they were able to do in January.
