Former Huddersfield Town goalkeeper Jonas Lossl has hit out at some of the comments made to the club's players by members of the Terriers' management team during their relegation from the Premier League last season.

Huddersfield suffered a dismal relegation after two years in the top-flight during the 2018/19 campaign, as the club picked up just three wins and seven draws from their 38 league games, with Lossl playing in 31 of those.

The 30-year-old has since returned to the Premier League with Everton - who he has yet to make an appearance for - and the goalkeeper has now been recalling his time at the John Smith's Stadium last season.

Speaking to TV3 Sport in his native Denmark about Huddersfield's relegation from the Premier League, Lossl admitted that that was probably a fair outcome for the season, saying: “It was really sad to end that way.

"You could say it was fair enough that Huddersfield’s Premier League adventure ended last season. In terms of how we played and the size of the club, it was actually fair enough that we dropped down."

However, while Lossl was willing to accept relegation, it seems he was less happy with some of the comments made to certain players by members of the club's hierarchy, as he continued: “Some things were said internally from Huddersfield management towards players.

"Players were hung out, which, I think, was completely unreasonable. When such things happen, players start to doubt, players start to get lost in their heads."

Following their relegation from the Premier League, it has been a difficult start to life in the Championship for Huddersfield, who have picked up just two points from their opening nine league games of the season, leaving them 23rd in the early standings.

The Verdict

This feels like quite a big claim from Lossl.

I don't think anyone can have any complaints about the Terriers' relegation last season given the way they played, and it is hard to really take anything away from them in that sense, given the size of the achievement they pulled off, both in getting promotion and remaining in the top flight for more than a single year.

The fact that Lossl is clearly far from happy on what was said behind the scenes however, suggests that it may not have been a united front behind the scenes throughout the course of last season, something which will not have helped the club's cause.

Indeed, considering how poor a start they have made to the current campaign, you have to wonder whether some of that tension has carried over into this season.
