Blackburn Rovers manager Jon Dahl Tomasson has admitted that the club are looking to strengthen in a number of areas between now and the end of the transfer window.

Whereas Rovers have parted ways with eight players following the conclusion of the previous campaign, they have only recruited four fresh faces over the course of the summer.

Ethan Walker was signed by Blackburn before Tomasson was handed over the reins at Ewood Park.

Since the 45-year-old's arrival, Rovers have bolstered their squad by signing Tyler Morton, Callum Brittain and Sammie Szmodics.

Following league victories over Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City, Blackburn managed to ease their way into the second round of the League Cup by defeating Hartlepool United last night.

Goals from Scott Wharton, Bradley Dack, Tyrhys Dolan and Dilan Markanday sealed a 4-0 win for Rovers who are set to take on Bradford City in the next round of the competition.

Following his side's triumph over Hartlepool, Tomasson made an honest claim about the club's transfer plans for the closing stages of the window.

Asked by the Lancashire Telegraph about whether he is only prioritising a move for a centre-back in the coming weeks, Tomasson said: "I think when eight players have left us from last season and we have only brought three in, you need to look at the whole squad.

"You need more players in because we're playing a lot of games in the Championship.

"It's an extremely tough league, and the cup games as well.

"We need quality."

The Verdict

With Tomasson admitting that he needs to add some more quality to his squad, it will be interesting to see whether Blackburn will be able to make some progress in terms of their transfer activity.

Whereas Rovers still need to sign a new centre-back following the departure of Darragh Lenihan earlier this year, they could boost their chances of achieving a great deal of success in the Championship if they strengthen their options in other positions.

By nailing his recruitment, Tomasson could potentially build upon what has been an incredibly encouraging start to the 2022/23 campaign.

Set to take on West Bromwich Albion on Saturday in the Championship, Blackburn will be hoping to secure their fourth win of the season at Ewood Park.
