This summer saw Blackburn Rovers enter something of a new era at Ewood Park.

After more than five years in charge, the departure of Tony Mowbray following the end of his contract, paved the way for Jon Dahl Tomasson to take over in Lancashire.

This job is the first for the former Denmark international since his departure from Malmo at the end of last year, after winning back to back top-flight titles in Sweden.

Given the profile of both the club and their new head coach, that is a move that is likely to have attracted a considerable amount of interest.

So with that in mind, we've taken a look at some of the big questions around Tomasson's time in charge of Blackburn up until now, right here.

How's it gone so far?

Initially, things started in perfect fashion for Blackburn and their new head coach.

Three leagues win at the start of the season over QPR, Swansea and West Brom saw Rovers sit top of the early Championship standings, while a much-changed and exciting young side swept Hartlepool aside 4-0 in the EFL Cup.

Since then however, things have taken something of a downward turn, with Blackburn losing four of their subsequent five league games, though they did claim derby victory at Blackpool, while the young guns returned to claim another EFL Cup victory, this time winning 2-1 at Bradford.

All that means that Rovers currently sit seventh in the Championship table, with four wins and four defeats giving them 12 points from eight league games so far this season.

What issues does he face?

Injuries have certainly not helped Tomasson and Blackburn so far this season.

Sam Gallagher's presence has been missed upfront recently, while various absences of the likes of Daniel Ayala, Hayden Carter, Scott Wharton and Sam Barnes have forced him to rotate in the centre of defence, putting plenty of pressure and demands on 17-year-old Ash Phillips in the process.

Meanwhile, the injury to summer signing Callum Brittain has left Blackburn exposed on the right of defence, while the creativity of Sam Szmodics and Ryan Hedges has been missed in attack at times, which hasn't helped Tomasson when it comes to establishing his best XI.

Given the Dane has stressed that the club have been playing catch-up this season, since his appointment and that of new Director of Football Gregg Broughton only came in June, long after preparations at other clubs had begun, there has been plenty of work for Rovers and their new boss to do in order to keep pace with their rivals.

What's next?

This does feel like it could be a season of consolidation for Rovers, as Tomasson looks to implement his approach and style of play on his squad.

The Dane's comments have pointed to this being a long term project, and the fact the club gave Mowbray plenty of time, suggests Tomasson himself will have a chance to put his vision in place at Ewood Park in the long term.

Indeed, that is backed up by the three-year contract he was given when his appointment as head coach was made official, securing his future at Ewood Park until the summer of 2025.

As a result, this could be a season of laying the foundations for Tomasson, and exciting possibility given those young prospects will of course, all have another year's experience under their belts, come the start of next season.
