Reading’s poor start to the 2021/22 Championship season continued on Saturday, as they were beaten 2-1 by newly-promoted Coventry City.
The Royals finished seventh in the second-tier standings last term, and the club’s supporters would have been hoping to see their side build on some strong showings from last year’s campaign.
But for one reason or another, that simply hasn’t been the case this season. with the Berkshire-based side currently sat 18th in the Championship table, after their opening four matches.
John Swift opened the scoring for Veljko Paunovic’s side from the penalty spot, but they were pegged back after 62 minutes, when Jamie Allen equalised for the Sky Blues.
Matty Godden then fired home a late winner in the final minute of injury-time, to spark jubilant scenes from the Coventry City supporters.
Paunovic made the somewhat surprising verdict in claiming that his side had a ‘solid performance’ in their defeat to Mark Robins’ side on Saturday, despite the statistics heavily being in Coventry City’s favour.
“This is football. We had a chance from the corner but then unfortunately crumbled. We had a solid performance today.”
Plenty of Reading supporters took to social media to react to Paunovic’s recent comments, with plenty being left frustrated by his verdict on their performance.
Take a look at the best of the reaction from Twitter below….
Oh my life. What solid performance? No point in lying to us and to the players because what will they learn?

That is unacceptable to say it was a solid performance. It was one of the worst I've seen in ages. Worrying if he really thinks that was strong

We had a solid performance? What game were you watching?

Get Paunovic out now, else we’re nailed on for League One 👍 #readingfc

Talk about the transfer embargo and Lack of options in the squad but the least you can do is set a team up properly and make them hard to beat? Been a big fan of pauno but any manager worth his salt is tactically astute. He's proving anything but atm. #readingfc

Not been this deflated from a football match since the last PO Final. There’s a hell of a lot to fix. Not sure if Pauno is the man to get this underachieving group performing, he needs results fast or he’s out #ReadingFC

Pauno should be gone, but given the financial situation I don't know if that's even possible. However, I think if he does stay we get relegated this season. #ReadingFC

Pauno out. Never look like we’re going to score. #readingfc
