‘Joke of an offer’ – Plenty of Reading fans react as EFL club submit bid for 21-y/o

Nottingham Forest have launched a £1.5m bid for Reading centre-back Tom Holmes, according to Football Insider.

This interest was first reported by Berkshire Live at the beginning of the month, with the 21-year-old currently being kept out the side by Liam Moore, Michael Morrison and Tom McIntyre after manager Veljko Paunovic decided to adopt a back three formation.

Although the centre-back is a boyhood Reading fan, he is currently in the final year of his contract and is yet to agree fresh terms at the Select Car Leasing Stadium despite reportedly being in negotiations about a new deal.

Crystal Palace triggered Michael Olise's release clause this summer. How much did they pay to bring him to Selhurst Park?

Holmes captained a young Royals side in their 3-0 defeat against Swansea City in midweek as one of the only senior players on the pitch – but if this bit-part role is a sign of things to come – he may wish to leave the club after making an impressive 39 Championship appearances last term.

He could be a valuable asset for a side that conceded just 45 goals in 46 league games during the 2021/22 campaign, although he could be persuaded to stay at the Select Car Leasing Stadium for the long-term with rumours continuing to swirl about 33-year-old Michael Morrison’s possible retirement.
