Slavisa Jokanovic has given his verdict on the promotion run in, concluding that his promotion hopefuls must wait for Cardiff to slip up if they're going to steal second place.

The Bluebirds are currently five points clear of Fulham with a game in hand and, despite being the Championships in form team, Jokanovic knows their fate is not in their own hands.

“It depends on them," Jokanovic told London Football News. "We can do it, we can try and repair ourselves and be ready for our next game. It is our ambition to fight for three points every week. But everything depends on Cardiff, they must lose. They have five points and that is a big difference. We will try and do our job, it’s a race, we will try and chase."

Fulham are unbeaten in the league since December 16th, but they have no games remaining against their promotion rivals, so must hope that they drop points. Their primary focus has to be on winning their remaining games against the likes of Reading, Sunderland and Sheffield Wednesday.

“We must try to push harder and try and win the next game. They need to have some mistakes to give us the opportunity. My job is not to be satisfied, my job is to push the players. It’s not so important if I’m happy. We are in a season where we can be successful. I’m proud of the way my team is working and how they are trying to push. They don’t give up in any moment. We will try and win the remaining games.”

Fulham 's 13-year stay in the top flight ended with relegation in 2014, after two seasons of struggle in the Championship they made last season's play offs, losing in the semi-finals to Reading.

The Verdict

Cardiff have Wolves and Villa coming up, meaning the gap could close significantly with the right results.

There's little Fulham can do now other than hold their nerve, their form has been sensational since Christmas but sadly they let themselves down at the end of 2017.

If they don't go up, the struggle is holding on to some of those wonderful players that have sparked this amazing run of form.
