The draw for the quarter-finals of this season’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy was made earlier today on Sky Sports, and it threw up some interesting ties in both Northern and Southern sections.
The stand-out clash in the Northern Area will take place at the DW Stadium, where 2013 FA Cup winners Wigan Athletic take on cash-stripped Blackpool, in a fixture which took place in the Premier League only four years ago.
Only two League Two sides remain in the Northern draw, and both face tricky away trips in their bid for a last four berth.
York City will travel to either Bradford City or Barnsley, who will face each other on Tuesday after the original tie was postponed, while Jim Bentley’s Morecambe face a trip to League One’s sixth place side Rochdale.
In the Southern section, last season’s beaten semi-finalists Gillingham host League Two strugglers Yeovil Town at the Priestfield Stadium, while three times beaten finalists Southend United take on two-times runners-up Bristol Rovers at Roots Hall.
The full draw is as followed…
Wigan Athletic v Blackpool
Rochdale v Morecambe
Fleetwood Town v Sheffield United
Bradford City/Barnsley v York City
Dagenham and Redbridge v Oxford United
Gillingham v Yeovil Town
Southend United v Bristol Rovers
Plymouth Argyle v Millwall
All ties will be played on week commencing the 9th of November.
