Bristol City manager Lee Johnson spoke to the press today ahead of his side’s trip to Luton Town in the Championship this weekend, and gave an update on both Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas.

Lee Johnson would've been thrilled that his side sat 6th in the Championship going into the international break.

His side have performed well in the opening 11 games despite several injuries, and today Johnson shed some light on the status' of both Jay Dasilva and Tomas Kalas.

Dasilva hasn't featured since the opening day of the season with a stress fracture in his leg, whilst club-record signing Kalas hasn't featured since his sides 3-1 win at Hull - both joined the club permanently from Chelsea in the summer.

Speaking to the press today, Johnson said on Dasilva:

“He’s got a scan on the 11th of November that will determine the speed of progression and at what point we can start pushing him.

“At the moment Jay understandably will be a bit frustrated. He’s not in pain and hasn’t been and he feels he can go and play but we’ve got to protect him.

“He’s a fantastic young English player and very important for the short and long term."

And on Kalas:

“He won’t make it for this weekend but he probably wouldn’t have gotten in anyway with the form of the defenders - And that’s not being disrespectful to Tomas, that’s just the way the boys have been performing.

“We know Tomas is a fantastic player and we’re desperate to get him back - But on the terms where he’s 100 per cent.

“There’s a few boxes that he has to tick tomorrow and if he feels no pain then at that point the progression comes pretty quick at integrating him back into the first team."

The pair impressed whilst on-loan at Ashton Gate last season - they made 66 Championship appearances between them for Bristol last season.

It left Johnson wanting more and when the opportunity arose to snatch them both, he didn't hesitate.

The verdict

Despite the absence of both Dasilva and Kalas, Bristol City have marched on and find themselves deserved of their play-off spot.

The trip to Luton will be no easy feat, and Johnson will need his team on top-form to continue to ascent up the Championship table.

And it can only get better for Robins' fans with the updates on Dasilva and Kalas - their return from injury will give Johnson's side some much needed depth as we get deeper into the season.
