Charlton Athletic could soon tie up a deal for one of their loan players with a permanent deal on the radar for Elliot Lee, according to caretaker boss Johnnie Jackson.

Even if he doesn't land the manager's job on a full-time basis, it looks like Jackson still has a role on the coaching staff going forwards as he talks about transfer plans.

Under Nigel Adkins, the Addicks acquired four loan players in the summer transfer window and it is Lee who could be the first to turn his temporary spell at The Valley into a long-term one.

The 26-year-old's father Rob was a fan favourite in his playing days at the club and he followed in his dad's footsteps by joining from Luton Town.

Lee has featured in 12 League One matches this season, slotting in in a variety of different attacking positions and his goal return stands at two, with an extra one coming in the FA Cup as well.

With the January transfer window on the horizon, Jackson has confirmed at a meeting with the Addicks' Supporters Trust that discussions will soon begin regarding Lee's future and keeping him at the club - his contract situation at his parent club is not known but he signed an extension last summer.

The Verdict

Lee brings a lot of versatility to Charlton and he's started in every match under Jackson's management.

So if he lands the job on a permanent basis then you can imagine one of his first actions will be to try and get Thomas Sandgaard to negotiate a deal with the Hatters to make Lee a permanent Addick - just like his dad was between 1983 and 1992.

The more he starts the more you'd expect Lee to grow into his role as a regular as he didn't always start under Adkins in his short time under his stewardship.

If Lee's contract at Kenilworth Road is expiring this summer then feasibly it shouldn't be a difficult deal to do and Charlton fans would no doubt be happy if it's one that could get done.
