Aston Villa assistant John Terry has revealed that he is thoroughly enjoying his new role as number two to Dean Smith.

The former England captain enjoyed a successful campaign with Villa as a player last season, although it ultimately ended in play-off heartbreak at Wembley.

That was Terry's final game as a player, as he decided to hang up his boots over the summer.

But, he was back at the club in October, when he was named as part of Smith's backroom team as they look to guide Villa back to the Premier League.

And, in a question and answer session with fans on his Instagram, the 38-year-old was asked how he was finding the transition from player to coach.

Terry responded by declaring that he is extremely happy with what he's doing and how he constantly is improving. "I'm really enjoying my time as a coach. Learning every day."

He will be alongside Smith in the dugout as Villa host high-flying Sheffield United in the Friday night Championship game as they look to close the gap on the top six.

The Verdict

Terry deserves a lot of credit for how he has settled in at Villa Park.

There was a lot of talk at the time that because he was such a big-name and personality he may be a distraction and might not be able to work with Smith.

However, he is clearly enjoying it and it seems to be going well so far for all concerned.
