Aston Villa coach John Terry has issued a cryptic message on social media when asked if he’s confident about his side’s chance of promotion this season in the Sky Bet Championship.

It’s been a fairly inconsistent season so far for Villa, whose squad has changed massively since Steve Bruce departed.

Dean Smith is the new head-coach, with Terry, last season’s captain, assisting him.

Terry has now been asked in a Q&A on his personal Instagram account whether he’s confident of winning promotion this season, with the former England skipper simply replying with a clenched fits ‘emoji’ and a football.

Currently, Villa find themselves on a difficult run of form, which has left them making up ground on the Championship’s top-six.

In their last six league outings, Villa have won only once, whilst Smith’s side went crashing out of the FA Cup in the third round after a heavy defeat to Swansea City.

Villa were held to a goalless draw by Reading last time out, with Smith and Terry looking to motivate the playing group ahead of a difficult fixture with Sheffield United on Friday evening.

The Blades are in contention for automatic promotion and the title.

The Verdict

It’s not been the best season for Villa, but they are still well in the mix for promotion, which Terry will recognise.

Terry is a born winner, who has picked up honours right through his playing career.

Now, he’s trying to transfer that to the coaching side.

This update isn’t a crystal-clear view into the former defender’s mind, but he seems confident the side can achieve their goal.
