It's fair to say that many Aston Villa fans couldn't have dreamed that their team would get a positive result against an in-form Derby County.

But they certainly proved everyone wrong as Dean Smith's side ran out comfortable 3-0 winners courtesy of goals from John McGinn, Tammy Abraham and Conor Hourihane.

The win was Villa's first away from home under the management team of Dean Smith and John Terry, and many fans will be keen to see how the team progresses going forward this season.

Terry joined Smith's coaching team when he arrived from Brentford and the pair have definitely made a positive impact on both the squad and the club's fanbase.

Terry acknowledged the impressive performance from his side on his social media account.

'What a great team performance and result from the boys today, well done everyone'.

The former Villa defender was full of praise for the travelling support at Pride Park and urged them to get behind the team for the rest of this season.

'Our supporters were superb as always and we will need them behind us all season.'

Terry and his Villa side will be hoping to build on the win over Derby with a positive result against fierce local rivals Birmingham City after the international break.

The Verdict

Although their win over Frank Lampard's side certainly came as a surprise, you do feel in the back of your mind that this result has been coming for a while in recent weeks.

The likes of John McGinn and Conor Hourihane have stepped up in recent weeks and they will be hoping to spearhead their charge towards the play-offs as the festive period approaches.

But they will go into their game against Birmingham City full of confidence about building on back-to-back wins under Dean Smith.
