Reading continued their good form under Mark Bowen in the Sky Bet Championship over the weekend, defeating Millwall by two goals to one at the Madejski Stadium.

Since Bowen took charge following the departure of Jose Gomes, Reading have won twice and drawn once in the league, and have climbed to 19th in the league.

Royals fans were delighted to see Jordan Obita back on the pitch, after the attacker has had a difficult time with injuries over the past couple of seasons.

The 25-year-old scored his first goal in 30 months for the club after nine minutes with a fantastic shot from the edge of the penalty area that flew into the bottom corner.

Sam Baldock doubled Reading's lead before the break, before Millwall came back into the contest in the second half through winger Jed Wallace. However, it was not enough for the South London side as the three points stayed in Berkshire.

Confidence has been building at the Madejski Stadium because of the recent good run of form, and the Royals will want to take it into another crucial game this Saturday against another relegation threatened side in Luton Town.

One player who expressed his delight at the result and performance was attacking midfielder John Swift, who has been one of Reading's more consistent players this season.

Swift was awarded Man of the Match for his exploits, and he took to Twitter to praise the team:

The Verdict

Despite early predictions that Mark Bowen's tenure was destined for disaster, the former Sporting Director has shown his managerial credentials and arguably improved the mentality of the side - making Reading a difficult side to beat.

After a run prior to his appointment of seven games without a win, Bowen has galvanised the team. The real test will come in the next few games, and that will show if the positive upturn was purely due to a new manager bounce.
