John Swift has expressed that the changes made by Mark Bowen have been positive for Reading.

The Welshman took over from Jose Gomes after the Portuguese boss won just two of his first 11 fixtures in the campaign.

Since, Bowen has guided the Royals to 10 points from a possible 12 available to them and the club seems to be back on the right track.

Bowen has made the team go more direct and look to get it up to the strikers quicker, a style that is almost opposite to Gomes' possession-based football.

Swift has been a key member of the Royals side so far this year, and has been outstanding next to Ovie Ejaria in midfield. He's stated that the whole squad has taken to the new tactics and he feels that they're a team.

Speaking to the Reading Chronicle, Swift said: “Before, we played with the ball a lot and tried to play out from the back at times when we shouldn’t have. Mark has come in and we’re all together, and we’re a team.

“You can see that – in the first 10 or 15 minutes we can go long and stretch teams, and it’s a tactic that we have had.

"It has been a positive change and every player has taken to it and the tactics that he has brought in. We are doing well at the moment and we want to carry on.”

The Verdict

Swift has been unbelievable so far this season, and with the amount of chances that himself and Ejaria make it's shocking to see Reading this far down in the league table.

They are on a good run at the moment, and are playing some very good stuff. It would not be a surprise to see them make a dart for the top half the way they are playing.

Swift has taken to Bowen well, and the Welshman has moved him slightly deeper, but it's worked well for him and he's allowed to dictate games as well as create chances.
