John Souttar, Thomas Kaminski, Ben Brereton Diaz: The latest Blackburn Rovers transfer talking points

Blackburn are a side that will need to make the most of the winter transfer window, as they look to try and ensure they can continue to push for a promotion place in the second half of the campaign.

If they can do the right kind of deals in the winter transfer window, then it could see them bag an automatic promotion spot. If they don’t, then they could just as easily drop out of the play-off places too.

Tony Mowbray and his side then need to ensure they balance the squad correctly and sign the kind of players that can help them kick on and achieve a position that they want come the end of the season.

With the winter transfer window about to open its doors then, what is the latest for Blackburn in terms of potential incomings and outgoings?

John Souttar set to sign terms with Blackburn

John Souttar is a player who has been linked with a move to Ewood Park – as well as many other Championship sides – for quite a while now but it is Rovers who are now leading that chase and, as reported by The Daily Record, the two parties are now in talks.

The player has looked impressive for Hearts so far this season and it has led to a lot of interest in bringing him over to England. Blackburn could certainly benefit from some more defensive solidity in their side and Souttar could be just the signing they need to do so.

With the player also out of contract at the end of the season, it makes doing a deal much more likely – and Rovers are set to capitalise. With Souttar and Blackburn in talks, it looks like they could soon be the ones to win the chase to secure his signature and give him a go in the Championship.

Souttar is a player well capable of starting in the team straight away – but regardless of whether they land him now or on a pre-contract agreement, the signing would be a brilliant one by Tony Mowbray.

Thomas Kaminski eager to stay at Ewood Park

In terms of players currently at Blackburn, one player who could be set to stay on at the club is Thomas Kaminski.

The goalkeeper has played a key role for the side so far this season and has been a regular in the team, as they have kicked on and secured a place in the play-offs so far. However, with his deal set to run out at the end of the season, the club are keen to try and ensure they can keep him on at Ewood Park beyond the summer.

According to LancsLive, the player himself also wants to stay at the club – and if they can land a spot in the Premier League for next season, that would certainly appeal to the shot-stopper too.

Although there is no new deal for the goalkeeper officially agreed as of yet, it looks like both player and club want him to stay at Ewood Park – and it means that they may not have to worry about potentially selling him on in the winter window.

Ben Brereton-Diaz is a wanted man

One other player they Blackburn will have to try and hold onto in the winter transfer window is goalscorer Ben Brereton-Diaz.

The Chile international has been one of the best forwards in the entire league and has been a key reason as to why Rovers are doing so superbly in the Championship this season. His finishing and ability in front of goal hasn’t gone unnoticed either and there are a few teams now keen to sign him.

One of the sides is Leeds, who could try and sign him in the winter window as reported by The Sun. The fee on his head may be large but with Marcelo Bielsa’s team eager to try and ensure they stay in the top tier, they could certainly benefit from having his goals in the team.

Tony Mowbray and Blackburn though will not want him to go – but that is unlikely to stop a number of teams from testing the water for the player with some big bids in the transfer window.
