Wolves goalkeeper John Ruddy has praised Nuno Espirito Santo's man management skills as a key reason behind the teams fantastic start to the season.

The Portuguese manager has made a remarkable start to life in England, so much so that after just over a dozen league games in charge of Wolves he was heavily linked with the Everton job.

And, speaking to the Express & Star, former England international Ruddy has offered an insight into how the ex-Porto manager works. “He's very relaxed and his demeanour's very relaxed. He tells you what he expects and he expects you to produce that.”

He can lose his temper when he needs to, like every manager can, and I think it's good he keeps you on that borderline in that you're not too comfortable and you're never too far ahead of yourselves as well. I think that's a fantastic balance and his man management for me is superb as well.”

Ruddy joined the Black Country side after spending seven years at Norwich City and has settled in very well himself. The keeper has eight clean sheets to his name in the Championship this season – the best in the entire league.

The Verdict

Santo is very cautious with the media and doesn't like the attention so Wolves fans will be interested in Ruddy's comments to get a view on how he works.

Clearly, whatever he does do is working, with Wolves flying high and it's largely down to their manager.

He has the team playing the best football fans have seen at Molineux in decades and even though there's a long way to go, it's easy to see why everyone connected with the club is so optimistic and pleased with the man they have in charge.
