Leicester City are interested in taking Aston Villa star John McGinn to the King Power Stadium this summer, as reported by the Daily Mirror.

McGinn has been one of the bright sparks in a relatively dull season for Villa, controlling their play in the centre of the park.

He looks engaged when he has Jack Grealish ahead of him, but isolated without. How will this latest speculation affect him, given their indifferent season?

McGinn joined from Hibernian in the summer, but in doing so he turned down Celtic. It seemed he wanted a stab at the English game, despite Celtic being a huge club. In terms of stature they're bigger than Aston Villa, but in terms of competition, England poses a much sterner test.

The very best Scottish players have to try their hand south of the border at some point and McGinn took that on board and jumped to Villa.

He will have seen them as the perfect vehicle by which to get into the top flight, the Holy Grail for any footballer in the United Kingdom.

How will he feel right now though? Villa are destined for another season in the Championship, barring a miracle, whereas Leicester are highly unlikely to drop out of the Premier League.

They could be set to offer him the chance he perhaps craved when he first moved to Villa Park.

Even more tempting, the manager there is Brendan Rodgers.

That means this isn't some off the cuff interest after his decent season with Villa. Rodgers wanted him at Celtic and now he's showing further faith by wanting him at Leicester too.

If they do come calling, McGinn has a big decision to make. Villa are perhaps a bigger club, a sleeping giant currently down on their luck, but can he risk his progression on them kicking on next season? If he wants to move to the top flight with them he has to gamble, hoping they're competitive next season.

However, he could move to a club with a Premier League title in the not-so distant past, working with a highly-decorated manager and renowned coach.

The decision, should it be presented to him, will be far tougher than choosing Villa over Celtic in the summer. There's every chance that after winning the battle in July, Villa will lose out this time around.

Time waits for no man and if John McGinn wants top flight football, he'll know he has to grab his chance as soon as it arrives.
