Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn is hoping that the club will sign on-loan defender Tyrone Mings on a permanent transfer in the summer.

Mings has been outstanding for Villa since joining on loan from Bournemouth in January and has played a vital role in helping Dean Smith's side reach the Championship play-off final.

The 26-year-old has made 17 appearances for Villa, scoring two goals and has helped transform their defence into one of the strongest in the Championship.

Talks for Villa to sign the centre-back on a permanent transfer are reportedly already underway, but any deal is likely to depend on whether the club win promotion this season.

McGinn joined Villa from Scottish Premiership side Hibernian in the summer and has had an exceptional season, scoring six goals and providing ten assists for his teammates in 40 Championship appearances.

The midfielder has hailed the impact that Mings has made since arriving at Villa Park in January and is hoping that the club will sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.

"Tyrone has been different class since he joined in January. It took us ages to get him! He is a colossus at the back. I just don’t know how he does not get a game for Bournemouth," said McGinn, as quoted by the Express & Star.

“If we can keep hold of Ty in the Premier League, if we get there, it would be brilliant for the club.”

Villa booked their place in the Championship play-off final with a dramatic penalty shoot-out victory over West Brom at the Hawthorns on Tuesday night, setting up a date with Derby County at Wembley on May 27.

The Verdict:

Mings has been an excellent signing for Aston Villa and has been magnificent during the second half of the season.

The club should do everything they can to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer and there best chance of signing him is probably by winning promotion.
