Gillingham has also offered Marquis a contract after a successful loan spell at the club which saw him net eight goals during the second half of the season.

Lions manager is 'absolutely delighted' that Marquis has signed a new contract and says that the 23 year old is determined to succeed at The Den

"I'm absolutely delighted that John has signed a new deal," Harris told millwallfc.co.uk

"I watched him on many occasions during his time at Gillingham and he put in some top performances. John has shown he has what it takes to score regularly at the level we're going to be playing at.

The striker excelled during his time on loan at Gillingham but it seems that the young striker sees his future at Millwall, and has decided to stay at the New Den.

"He has a great character and is a real winner. John's attitude is fantastic and I know how determined he is to play and score goals for Millwall.

"He is a different type of striker to what we've already got at the club and is another piece in the jigsaw we are looking to put together.

"I'm pleased to get this over the line and hopefully we will have more on new signings and current players extending their contracts soon."
