John Eustace had a busy summer as he arrived as Birmingham City's new manager and was therefore tasked with building a squad of his own.

His side haven't had the best start to the season so far with only one win under their belts as they entered September.

However, the Blues finally got their first away win of the season as they travelled to Preston North End at the weekend and came away with a 1-0 victory.

Eustace was boosted by the addition of summer loan signing Krystian Bielik who made his first appearance of the season after being injured at the start of the campaign, as well as Tahith Chong who rejoined the club on a permanent deal on transfer deadline day.

Both players started yesterday's game and Eustace felt the pair gave Birmingham's performance another dimension as he told Birmingham Live: "Of course they do, they are top players, that's why we got them here. Krystian is one of the best midfielders in the Championship without a shadow of a doubt. He is probably 50% fit, he has been back two weeks now. You could see in the first half especially what an impact he made. He made others get on the ball, he made others play. We have got him here because he is top.

"With Chongy it was great of the club to bring him back again, he is probably 50-60% match fit so we have to use them wisely. It was important we didn't push them. On Tuesday night with Gaz [Gary Gardner] missing the whole of pre-season - that was hit first game and we pushed him a little bit too much and he ended up getting a calf injury."

The Verdict:

The addition of both Bielik and Chong in the side is a definite positive for Eustace and his Birmingham side and both players performed well for the Blues at the weekend.

Considering the manager has also said that both players are not yet at full fitness should mean there is even more to come from them both suggesting they are players that will elevate Birmingham's season.

Getting hold of the boys this summer was good business from Eustace and although they've had a bit of a slow start to the season, Saturday's win was a positive and it will now be about looking to carry on that run as they prepare for a visit from Swansea City this weekend.
